Hilltown Community Health Centers, Inc.

The Hilltown Community Health Centers first began providing services in rural Western Massachusetts in 1950. The Worthington area was very remote, with unpaved roads and few automobiles and it was difficult for residents to travel the distances to the city to see a doctor.

Florence Bates, RN was instrumental in the center’s founding, gathering the concerned townspeople and making them aware of the need for medical and dental care in the rural hill towns. Her efforts led to the establishment of the center, which was “committed to delivering quality health care to rural communities.”

While much has changed over the course of 60 years, the area remains largely rural and Hilltown is designated a rural health clinic. The center serves the uninsured and underinsured who would otherwise not receive health care as well as insured and self-pay patients that support our cause and believe in our mission to provide high quality, accessible medical, dental and behavioral health care. The generosity of the town’s residents - with land, money, and above all, time – has allowed the center to grow and flourish over the years.
