Greene County Health Care, Inc.

The mission of Greene County Health Care is “Compassionate, Quality Care. Every Day. For All."

Greene County Health Care, Inc. (GCHC) is a federally qualified health center that has been providing primary health care in eastern North Carolina for 50 years. Our emphasis on providing access to care for underserved populations is enhanced by three outreach provider teams who visit several hundred farmworker camps in seven counties. We have grown from a single medical care site in Walstonburg in 1973 to a large organization with eight service delivery locations in three counties. Our current delivery system includes four primary medical care sites and three dental care sites.

We ensure access to affordable prescriptions through the provision of 340b pharmacy services via contract with a pharmacy located across the street from our Snow Hill sites.  In recognition that health is more than the absence of disease, Marriage and Family Therapy students from East Carolina University provide medical family therapy integrated care services and traditional counseling services. Our emphasis on providing access to care for underserved populations is enhanced by three outreach provider teams who visit several hundred farmworker camps in seven counties to provide care. Our corporate service area covers all of Greene and Pitt counties, as well as the migrant and seasonal farmworker populations of seven adjacent counties. Our target population includes all farmworkers in the service area and all medically underserved residents.

In calendar year 2022, our medical, dental and mental health providers served 41,156. Slightly more than half of our patients (60%) are migrant and seasonal farmworkers, primarily from Mexico. The majority of GCHC patients are uninsured (87.7%), with 6.1% Medicaid, 3.5 % private, and 2.6% Medicare. The health center's patient population  is 77%  Latino, 12% African American, and 11% white. The vast majority of our patients  report incomes at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level. Nearly one third of our patients are under age 20, and over half of those served are migrant or seasonal agricultural workers.

Services routinely provided include preventive and acute medical care, comprehensive dental services, management of chronic conditions for prenatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, and diagnostic laboratory and radiology services. In recognition that health is more than the absence of disease, Marriage and Family Therapy students from East Carolina University provide medical family therapy integrated care services and traditional counseling services. We augment this care with extensive case management, health education, transportation, interpretation, and other enabling services.

Greene County Health Care, Inc. is also a FTCA (Federal Tort Claims Act) Deemed Facility.
